What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. Websites also use similar technologies such as local storage and session storage, which keep information in your browser in much the same way.
Some are necessary for a site to work. Others, like the analytics cookies below, exist to tell the site owner how the site is being used. This page lists everything blac-m.com actually uses - it is a description of the real site, not a generic template.
What this site uses
Nothing is stored on your device until you choose. On your first visit this site asks whether you are happy for us to use Google Analytics. Until you accept, no analytics cookie is written, and if you decline none ever is.
To be precise about what does happen: the Google Analytics tag itself loads on every page, but it starts in a mode Google calls consent denied, which means it is not permitted to store or read anything on your device. In that state it can still register an anonymous, cookieless page view. Accepting switches storage on; declining keeps it off for good.

If you submit a form, or if you are a member of our team signed in to the website, WordPress may set functional cookies needed for that to work. Those are only set at that point, not when you simply read the site.
Third-party requests
One thing on this site does reach outside it. The typefaces are requested from Google Fonts when a page loads, which means Google receives your IP address and basic browser information in order to send the font file back.
This does not set a cookie and is not used to track you around the web, but it is a request to a third party and you are entitled to know about it.
What this site does not use
Being specific about what is absent is as useful as listing what is present. This site carries:
- No advertising or retargeting cookies.
- No social media pixels or share-tracking.
- No session recording, heatmaps or mouse tracking.
- No third-party scripts other than the web fonts described above.
Consent
Analytics cookies are not necessary to make this site work, so we ask before setting any. On your first visit you will see a short banner with two options, and no analytics cookie is written until you pick one.
Accept lets Google Analytics store cookies and measure your visit normally. Decline keeps storage switched off permanently, so no analytics cookie is ever written on your device. Either way we remember your choice for six months in a single cookie called bm_consent, which is the only thing set without asking - it exists purely so we do not ask again on every page.
You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link in our footer, or by clearing this site's cookies in your browser.
How to control cookies
In your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and clear site storage, either for all sites or for individual ones. The settings are usually under Privacy, Security, or Site settings. Blocking storage for this site will not stop the pages working.
Changing your choice
Use the cookie settings link in the footer to bring the banner back and choose again. Declining also clears any analytics cookies already set.
Opting out of Google Analytics everywhere
Google publishes a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics collecting data on any site you visit, not just this one.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, be aware that these are not honoured consistently across the web. Declining on our banner is the reliable option here.
Changes to this policy
If the cookies used by this site change - for example when a consent banner is added - this page will be updated and the date at the top changed to match.
