Location and movement of vehicles, equipment and stock, plus environmental readings such as temperature, humidity, door state or power. The practical limits are usually battery life and network coverage rather than the sensors themselves.
Do we need a separate platform to view the data?
Preferably not. Feeding readings into the systems your team already works in gets the data looked at; a standalone dashboard tends to be checked enthusiastically for a fortnight and then ignored.
How long do battery-powered sensors last?
It depends almost entirely on reporting frequency. Reading every few seconds drains a battery quickly; reporting every fifteen minutes can last years. We set that against what the decision actually requires rather than defaulting to maximum frequency.
